Dr. Alaina Johnson is a clinical psychologist, author, consultant and mother of three creatively driven offspring.
When she took a temporary break from her practice to relocate with her son while he performed on Broadway, Dr. Alaina connected with parents of other creatively driven tweens and teens. She quickly recognized universal themes in the parenting questions and challenges these parents navigated as they worked to best understand, support, and affirm their children and their children’s passion.
To facilitate her own parenting journey and better respond to the requests for guidance she was receiving from other parents, Dr. Alaina began searching for resources specific to parenting tweens and teens drawn to the creative arts. She discovered that there were very few parenting resources that addressed the unique needs and challenges of adolescent creative artists.
Upon her return to her clinical practice, Dr. Alaina began building Parenting Talent to provide workshops and consulting to address this need. With Parenting Talent she works as a consultant, instructor, writer and speaker specializing in supporting parents, families, instructors, and coaches of creatively driven tweens and teens.
Dr. Alaina lives with her husband and three teenage sons outside of Chicago. She enjoys taking walks in nature, exploring new places, and eating great meals with close friends. She considers herself fortunate that she is truly enjoying the turn her career has taken…since her retirement funds have largely gone to her boys’ instruments, music lessons, and acting classes. Through her company Parenting Talent LLC she offers consulting to parents and other adults working with creatively driven teens and young adults. In her book Parenting Talent: The Grown-Up’s Guide to Understanding and Supporting Creatively Driven Teens and Tweens, she provides help to parents and mentors of teens and tweens in the creative arts to identify the unique challenges they may face and how to assist them in navigating these in relation to their art.
